This morning we did a lot of playing and ended with making something I've been wanting to make for quite a while with the babies....apple pie play-doh. We made apples and used pipe cleaner pieces to add stems and leaves. We also made apple pie, apple cake, and cinnamon rolls. I got the recipe from the Pocketful of Posies blog. It was a definite hit. Here's the recipe.
Apple Pie Play Dough
1 Cup Flour
½ Cup Salt
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Cardamom
1/4 tsp. Allspice (or Ground Cloves)
(You may substitute 2 tsp. of Pumpkin Pie Spice for the cinnamon, allspice, cardamom and nutmeg.)
1 Cup Water
1 tsp. Vegetable Oil
30+ Drops Red Food Coloring
Additional Cinnamon or Flour
Combine flour, salt, cream of tartar, and spices in a pan. In a separate bowl, combine water, oil and food coloring. Add the liquid mixture to the pan with the dry ingredients. Mix well. Cook over low heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat when mixture forms a ball and isn’t clinging to the sides of the pan. Take dough from pan and knead on a floured (or cinnamon) surface until it is soft and smooth. Store in an airtight container or zippered bag.
