First Day

They had the times of their lives...and came home smiling. It WAS a good day.

To My Girl: A Word about the New School Year

Little Girlie,

Second grade? Not sure how we got here already. You weren't especially excited about starting the school year. You were sure that second grade would be super duper hard. You kept saying you didn't want to go to school.
But after school, you were all excited, telling me about your new pencil and owl eraser Mrs. Rivera gave you...and the little owls with all the students' names and the big owl with Mrs. Rivera's name. You were sure to tell me that you thought second grade was easy peasy. And now you are excited about returning tomorrow and the rest of the year. You can hardly wait.
You got a new haircut and everyone LOVED it. You look so different...more grown up. I'm so happy that you changed your mind about school. I only hope that you will continue to love it even when things are challenging. I pray that you will do your best and not give up when the going gets tough. Keep doing your best, Baby, and let Jesus help you with the hard stuff.
Love ya.
Mamma.

Off to School: A Letter to my Little School Boy at the Start of a New Year

Little Mr.,
Now that you are officially a "school boy" I pray that you have a wonderful year. This year is going to be filled with lots of exciting things. Like making new friends, learning new things, camping, exploring, growing, and maturing. I want to always remember how excited you have been about entering kindergarten. You've been asking me when it's your time to go to school for well over a year now. And yesterday you woke up and the first thing you said was "tomorrow's school" or something like that. You have been counting the days.
Today you entered the classroom with Daddy and you were a little tearful and clung to him. Mrs. Wyatte had to intervene so she could start class and let Daddy go. You were a bit quiet and down. Mrs. Wyatte took you to visit sis and would've let you come to see me, but I thought that might start your tears again, so we opted out of that. By the end of the day, you were super excited and ready to tell me all about your fabulous day. You talked about two friends that you made, Sabrina and another girl that you didn't know the name of (Angelina). You talked to Uncle James and Aunt Karon after school and told them about your first day. When Uncle James asked you if there were any cute girls in your class, you smiled and said, "Uh-huh." You were concerned that Mrs. Wyatte removed your supplies from your dinosaur backpack and didn't seem to understand that you had to leave all that at school (you mentioned it twice).
I'm so thankful to have you at school with me. It will brighten my day to see you passing by me on the sidewalks.I hope that you continue to love school and that you are enthusiastic about learning throughout the entire year. Make Jesus proud, Little Man. Be a shining light for Him everyday in your classroom. Mwah! Love you.
