What September Looked Like

September looked like Little Mr. asking to go to his baby sitter's house every day wearing his pajamas. Mostly, he wanted to wear his Superman ones. Sometimes he wanted to take his mask.

September looked like piles of dinosaurs, lines of cars, random planes and other toys left behind by my very favorite boy. It looked like papers everywhere decorated with pictures of our family, colors, and other beautiful things hand-drawn by a little girl that is a wee bit (O.K., maybe a lot) obsessed with art right now. It looked like dolls tucked in snugly here and there on the couch, floor, in a cradle, or on the stairs by a mommy in training.

September looked like a family trip to the bowling alley. Complete with the smallest and cutest little bowling shoes ever seen. It looked like a bright green ball being thrown down the lane, but moving in slow motion and barely making it to the end. It looked like a pink ball being tossed, granny style, by a little girl that could barely wrap her arms around it.

September looked like a family game night after supper. It looked like a round of  Bee Tree that Little Mr. requested. And a sweet round of Candy Land chosen by our little girl.

September looked like a little girl asking me, "Do you know how many kisses you are getting tonight?" And then showering me with an endless supply. It looked like extra goodnight prayers of blessings for both babies. It looked like a momma singing When I am Afraid to her little girl. And a little boy asking for kisses on his neck that he could hardly stand because they tickled too badly. It looked like butterfly kisses, Eskimo kisses, and a little kiss for his little nose.

September looked like my little boy practicing all sorts of crazy faces and wanting us to watch him. And it looked like my little girl having some crazy meltdowns. And an exhausted momma.

September looked like lots of rain and rainbow days. It looked like us going early to the pool on a Sunday and being the only ones there, swimming under the beautiful rainbow that was splashed across the sky. It looked like spending time with our church at a local park, enjoying a breakfast together. It looked like swinging on a playground, playing t-ball, and exploring sand dunes in the woods. It looked like a daddy telling the babies we could get slurpees.

September looked like daddy and Mr. Handsome wrestling incessantly. It looked like super-duper bubbles being blown from a new recipe. It looked like smiles and laughter and dimples. It looked like a field trip to the beach with Little Lady's kindergarten class. It looked like Little Mr. being obsessed with all sorts of hats, his straw one, pirate scarf, firefighter helmet, and an army one too.

September looked like me waking the babies early so we could drive over to Dunkin Donuts and do worship and breakfast there. It looked like sprinkle donuts and a blueberry muffin to split. It looked like hot chocolate for her and a chocolate milk for him. It looked like two babies asking to do that again. It looked like a momma saying we could do it again sometime, but not tomorrow.

September looked like one of the hardest months in a while. It looked like my little girl on a huge gurney being wheeled down a hallway to go under the knife.
It looked like two little empty shoes by my bigger ones sitting in the waiting room, waiting to be filled again. It looked like a thousand prayers, from all over the world, being said for a little girl who was getting her tonsils and adenoids out. It looked like angels holding the knife over the hands of the doctors, like I hold the hand of a child learning to write, guiding their work. It looked like a little girl with an IV tube in her hand and oxygen being blown in front of her nose to wake her up. It looked like her throwing up from the anesthesia. It looked like surprises for a little girl that is recovering. An ouchie doll from Momma, which she didn't like, a smiley cup filled with flowers and a teddy bear from a grandma and grandpa that live far, far away, and a little package of goodies from Aunt Karon too. It looked like soft foods and no running and lots of cuddles for a little girl that was recovering.

That's what September looked like.

April this is great! Do you print this and put in an album? What a wonderful thing you are doing for your children!
